Monofilament extruder for beach mat warp yarn: SJ-YS models compared
What a monofilament extruder makes, how the SJ-YS-65, SJ-YS-80 and SJ-YS-95 compare on output and spindles, and where its HDPE or PP yarn fits a mat line.
A monofilament extruder melts plastic and draws it into round, single-strand yarn: monofilament. The SJ-YS line from Wenzhou Xiangyi Machinery makes it from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP), with a yarn diameter of 0.1 to 0.35 mm, and the catalogue lists beach mat warp first among its uses. Together with the warping machine, it is one of the two machines in a beach mat line that serve the warp rather than the weft: the straws come from the straw extruder, while a PP monofilament extruder or an HDPE one can supply the warp yarn that holds them. The line comes in three sizes, the SJ-YS-65, SJ-YS-80 and SJ-YS-95, with outputs from 30 to 140 kg/h. This guide explains what the machine does, compares the three models and shows where its yarn goes.
Key definitions
- Monofilament. A yarn made of one continuous strand, as opposed to a yarn twisted from many fibres. The SJ-YS produces round monofilament.
- HDPE monofilament and PP monofilament. Monofilament made from high-density polyethylene or polypropylene, the two raw materials the SJ-YS takes.
- Screw. The rotating screw that melts and pushes the plastic through the extruder. The SJ-YS models are named after its diameter: 65, 80 or 95 mm.
- Spinneret. The plate the melt is pressed through to form the filaments. Ours are precision-made for a smooth, even filament.
- Spindles. The winding positions that take up the finished yarn: 150, 192 or 256 depending on the model.
- Drawing. Stretching the filament after extrusion. The SJ-YS drawing section has synchronised speed control with separate speed reduction, so the process can be set for different yarns.
What the SJ-YS line does
The SJ-YS was developed in-house on the basis of technology from abroad. Raw material is melted and extruded through the spinnerets, the filaments are drawn to the required properties, and the finished yarn is wound onto the spindles. The line is compact, runs steadily, and is responsive, easy and safe to operate.
Its yarn has a long list of uses beyond beach mats. The catalogue names beach mat warp, rope, fishing nets, construction safety nets, sunshade umbrellas, artificial hair, mosquito nets, brushes and protective nets for cotton fields. So one line can serve beach mat warp as well as the other products on that list.
The three models compared
All figures below are copied from our catalogue.
| Model | Screw diameter (mm) | Screw speed (r/min) | Output (kg/h) | Yarn diameter (mm) | Line speed (m/min) | Spindles | Installed power (kW) | Overall size (m) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SJ-YS-65 | 65 | 10–50 | 30–60 | 0.1–0.35 | 100–150 | 150 | 75 | 26 × 1.7 × 1.7 |
| SJ-YS-80 | 80 | 10–50 | 40–100 | 0.1–0.35 | 100–150 | 192 | 85 | 28 × 1.7 × 1.7 |
| SJ-YS-95 | 95 | 10–50 | 80–140 | 0.1–0.35 | 100–152 | 256 | 100 | 32 × 1.7 × 1.7 |
The models share the same yarn diameter range and screw speed. What changes is capacity: a larger screw, more spindles and more output, at the cost of more installed power and a longer line.
How to choose a model
- Work out the yarn you need per hour. Add up the warp yarn your looms will use, plus any yarn for rope or netting you plan to sell, and compare it with the output range of each model.
- Check installed power. The SJ-YS needs 75, 85 or 100 kW installed, far more than the other machines in our catalogue, so confirm the factory's supply first.
- Check floor length. The lines are 26, 28 and 32 m long and 1.7 m wide and high.
- Pick the raw material. Decide between HDPE and PP for your yarn; the line takes either.
- Decide make or buy. Warp yarn can also be bought in. Compare that with running your own line, especially if you also want yarn for the other uses in the catalogue.
Where the yarn goes in a beach mat line
Monofilament from the SJ-YS is wound onto a warp beam on the ZJ-2000 warping machine, and the beam is mounted on the jacquard beach mat loom. The full specification is on the monofilament yarn extruder page, and the production line page shows how warp and weft meet at the loom. To size a line for your output, send us an enquiry.
Frequently asked questions
- What raw materials does the SJ-YS monofilament extruder use?
- High-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP). The line produces round monofilament yarn with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.35 mm.
- What is monofilament yarn used for?
- The catalogue lists beach mat warp, rope, fishing nets, construction safety nets, sunshade umbrellas, artificial hair, mosquito nets, brushes and protective nets for cotton fields.
- How do the three SJ-YS models differ?
- By screw size and output. The SJ-YS-65 has a 65 mm screw, 30 to 60 kg/h and 150 spindles; the SJ-YS-80 an 80 mm screw, 40 to 100 kg/h and 192 spindles; the SJ-YS-95 a 95 mm screw, 80 to 140 kg/h and 256 spindles. Installed power is 75, 85 and 100 kW.
- Do I need a monofilament extruder to make beach mats?
- No. The warp yarn for beach mats can be bought in. A monofilament line lets you make it yourself from HDPE or PP, and it can also make yarn for rope, nets and the other uses in the catalogue.
